New Cyber-Syping Malware Discovered

Last year, security firms identified Stuxnet, a disabling virus that appeared aimed at Iran’s nuclear facilities but then spread around the world. Stuxnet pointed up a well-known vulnerability in industrial control systems, which often have little or no security. The new cyberthreat, Duqu, was clearly created by the same coders who made Stuxnet, as it contains some of the Stuxnet source code, which has never been released to the hacking community. It gathers information, presumably for cyber-espionage purposes, rather than disabling anything.

Oh, and by the way, Duqu appears to be a homophone for Count Dooku, one of the main villains in the Star Wars saga. Interesting coincidence, if it is one…
